MLA North West’s Workforce Development Programme
October 2008 to March 2009

Welcome to MLA North West’s final Workforce Development programme.

A range of full and half-day training events are available, designed to meet the practical needs of the workforce now, as well as preparing staff to respond to a number of forthcoming national agendas which will be of strategic importance for our workforce in the future.

The programme will:

  • Enable participants to take away practical skills and expertise to improve their practice
  • Provide a deeper understanding of the strategic and policy context for key themes and initiatives driving our sector

The programme relates to the MLA Partnership’s 3 strategic priorities:

  • Learning and skills – we will work with the sector to increase opportunities for learners to progress and achieve their creativity and unlock their potential.
  • Communities – we will ensure museums, libraries and archives are inclusive and support cohesive communities, particularly in their work with young people.
  • Excellence – we will strengthen capacity in the sector to innovate and continually improve across workforce, collections, services, funding and partnerships. We will also make the MLA an excellent and efficient organisation.

Key speakers from government and government agencies, both regionally and nationally will be participating, as well as practitioners and their partners, who will be showcasing a range of good practice case studies.

All training events are relevant and open to museums, libraries and archives staff collectively and most sessions are being repeated at locations across the region in order to ensure maximum access and take up.

This programme represents an investment by MLA North West of around £50,000, enabling all sessions to be offered completely freeof charge. (Please see our terms and conditions, including our cancellation policy, on the booking form.)

Additions to the programme
Further additions to the programme are expected as more speakers, dates and venues are confirmed and details of those additions can be found by visiting the Business in the Arts web site at
www.businessinarts-nw.org.uk

An E mailed reminder about the programme, which will also contain details of any additions, will be sent out each month.

If there is sufficient demand, we may be able to repeat some courses in early 2009. So if you want to do a course, but can't do the date, follow the instructions at the bottom of the booking form to let us know of your interest

In order to deliver this programme during what is a transitionary period for MLA North West, we are working with Business in the Arts:North West, who are providing us with expertise on some event content and delivery as well as managing the bookings system for this programme.
