Mentoring funded by the NWDA

Business in the Arts:North West is delighted to be working alongside G&M Associates and Merseyside ACME in a consortium which has been selected by the Northwest Regional Development Agency (NWDA) to deliver one-to-one mentoring through an exciting Mentoring Programme in Northwest England, as part of a wider network across the region.  This Mentoring Programme gives leaders and senior managers an excellent opportunity to work with a dedicated mentor who will develop their leadership and management potential to help them grow their business.

Our consortium is focusing particularly on providing support to the creative sector.  All three consortium members specialise in working with the creative and cultural sectors, in particular to support management and business development. They also have extensive experience of running high quality mentoring programmes and this programme will be aiming to achieve the International Standard for Mentoring Programmes in Employment.

The consortium will be providing mentoring in Cheshire, Greater Manchester, Lancashire and Merseyside.  Mentors with a variety of skills and experience will be available.  Some will be professional coaches and mentors; some will be successful entrepreneurs in the creative sector and some will have worked at senior levels in large companies.

If you would like to put something back into the business community and you believe you fall into one of the categories of mentors identified above, do contact us.

Who is it for?

The Mentoring Programme is for leaders and senior managers of small business who:

  • have been trading for a minimum of 1 year;
  • have less than £2m turnover per year;
  • have a leadership/management role in the company;
  • are looking to improve their leadership skills;
  • are looking to grow their business;
  • are not currently receiving Agency funded LEAD, High Growth Coaching or Business Start Up Support;
  • are not located in Local Economic Growth Initiative (LEGI) funded areas or in receipt of LEGI funded support.

Mentors are provided at no cost to the business. Clients just need to commit a couple of hours each month to meet their mentor.

What mentoring does

Mentoring gives leaders and senior managers the chance to reflect on their own personal and business performance.  It provides the motivation to build on business success by nurturing strategies that will enable leaders and senior managers to become more innovative and entrepreneurial and therefore enable their business to become more competitive.  Our consortium offers access to a wide range of quality assured mentors who will work to the International Standards for Mentoring Programmes in Employment (ISPME).

How we work

All  Mentors will be carefully selected and matched to the needs of clients, based on their competencies, skills and experience.  We will provide clients with a suitable alternative mentor if our first choice is not fully endorsed by the client.  The Mentoring Programme will enable clients and mentors to set the goals and objectives of their relationship.  Clients dictate the tone and the pace.  Typically a relationship will last between 6-12 months and take place in an informal setting away from the workplace.

Could you be a business mentor?

Lived through the highs and lows of running a business? Got experience, knowledge and wisdom that you can share with your peers?  Made a real difference in your business?

If so, why not join the Mentoring Programme as a mentor and give something back to your local business community?

Mentors will listen, challenge and offer insight, knowledge and above all experience, to inspire leaders and managers to develop their ability and potential.

As part of this quality accredited programme, mentors will receive induction and expert guidance to understand the mentoring process fully.  Mentors will also be supported to develop their mentoring skills through a programme of training and networking events.  Mentoring is voluntary; however, out of pocket expenditure such as travel costs will be reimbursed.

Interested in becoming a mentor?  Contact us on 0151-709 8780.
